On A Personal Note – Sacramento, Cincinnati and Cake Wars!

July seemed to be a quiet month. Everyone’s on vacation. However, there were a couple of special things that went on with our family in July and August. As you know, my daughter’s Cupcake Business, Hapa Cupcakes has been growing over the past 3 years. There was something special I was not supposed to tell anyone up until now.

On August 8th Hapa Cupcakes appeared as one of the contestants on Cake Wars. You may remember they appeared on Cupcake Wars in 2013. Well, the Food Channel invited them back and they made a really great showing, although they didn’t get 1st place. Still, what great exposure for the little cupcake and cake company that could. We are so proud of Hanayo, Akemi and their awesome Cake Decorator Sally for representing their company on national TV.

The other side of our July was a much needed break for me before Medicare Open Enrollment begins in the fall. One trip was part pleasure and part business. I vacationed in Sacramento and did business in Cincinnati. Sacramento was an opportunity to visit friends, old town Sacramento and the Historic Railroad Museum and the other trip was to the Matson Money Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

If you want to travel back to some California history you have to check out Old Town Sacramento. I was totally surprised by the quaint downtown shops, restaurants and beautiful museums all walking distance to our hotel. We took a real train ride, found a killer Chinese restaurant, took a day trip to Tahoe to see more friends [Hickey’s, Leone’s, Runyon’s] and then off the next week to Cincinnati.

My trip [also July] to the 3rd Annual Matson Money Symposium was full of fantastic information from leading academics in Investing Sciense and I met personally with Dr. Art Laffer [The Laffer Curve] who engineered the Reagan Economic recovery of the 1980’s. I brought back great information for our investing clients and I will share in the near future. Finally, we were treated to a private concert by Kenny Loggins sponsored by Matson Money. It was amazing and he still has [at 68] a powerful voice and belted out some of his all time hits. If you are an investing client, I hope next year you’ll attend with me
