The Original Medicare benefits are a great start. They give people tremendous freedom of choice however, there are some major gaps in those benefits. Medicare doesn’t pay for everything.
Usually people will add on Supplemental/MediGap plans to help pay for those gaps in Medicare.
These Supplement plans are offered by private insurance companies and the benefits are standardized Plans A – N. The most popular and most popular plan being the Plan F.
Since these plans are all standardized from company to company, I get asked all the time, how do you choose a Medicare Supplement plan?
Here are the four things that we looks at when determining which companies to recommend:
- Monthly Premiums: Each company can charge different premiums and they are usually based on age and zip code. We want to make sure that companies we work with have competitive premiums. They may not necessarily be the least expensive but which are the best value? Those are the plans we want to work with.
- Customer Service: The customer service from company to company will vary. Some are really responsive and have talented employees that resolve issues in timely manners. There will be other companies out there that don’t do as good of a job. We get feedback from our clients and want to make sure we limit the number of customer service complaints.
- Agent Support: As your agent on record, we want to make sure we work with companies that make it easy for us to help you. Some companies make it more difficult than others for us to do our job. If our clients are having problems, we want to be able to help them in a timely and professional manner.
- Strength of Company: The last thing we want to make sure of when working with insurance companies is that they are a strong company that has been in the Medicare Supplement business for a number of years without having increases over industry averages. We want to make sure these companies are reputable and have a positive history. Not all insurance companies are built the same.
Those are the four areas that we look into as we decide which companies to suggest to our clients. To get a quote or to speak with us about your Medicare options, feel free to give us a call at 800-464-4941 or schedule a no cost Medicare consultation here!
